Help needed to gain weight

Postby nemo » Mon Jan 12, 2009 1:05 pm

One of the kids in our 4h club has a pig that weighs 190 - the show is in 17 days. The minimum weight is 210. What can we do to push this pig to gain weight? He gained 10 lbs in the last 8 days. We would like for this pig to be around 220.

You can put him on paylean and you can also give him some b12 or appfuel to increase his appetite.

I would suggest the B12. We used it on barrow last year and it did work to help increase his appetite.

Try putting cake mix in with the feed and then a little on top works we had one doing the same but dont have to worrie know after introducing the cake mix. Then you can add more feed and it should be gone.

go to the vet and get the b12 3000 micrograms.the b12 complex has nothing compared to the full b12 you get from the vet. appefuel is good as well.

mix all that up with warm water and make it slop they love that too. the warm water does better than cold. I used jello too.....the fruity flavor they love and i was told the jello was good for the joints. my pigs put all their food down in less than 10 min.

I used about 2-3 ounces mix with the feed and then about half of a ounce on top to spark its intrest in it.

Careful with the paylean. You will gain an increase in muscle and you may want more cover. You can try adding a few fresh eggs in the mix when you feed which will also supply extra protein.ice cream is also something that can be used.it will melt down and add a huge surge of caloric intake. Dont use bluebell though..too expensive
